Engineers
Without Borders - USA (EWB-USA) is a non-profit humanitarian
organization founded at the University of Colorado in the late 1990s.
The goal of the organization is to deliver environmentally and
economically sustainable engineering projects to communities worldwide
to improve their quality of life.
The nation-wide organization has worked in more
than 80 countries, mostly with rural villages in the third-world. They
assist in the design and building of water delivery systems, sanitation
systems, electric pumps, solar panel grids, fuel cells, electricity
grids, housing and many other smaller projects. Projects are funded
through the host communities, generous sponsor donations and grants.
EWB-USA focuses on empowering developing
communities through sustainable projects and continued support.
This allows the developing communities to own and operate the projects
without external assistance, but enhancing local technical, managerial
and entrepreneurial skills.
A project will require support, communication and
coordination between the host community, community liaisons and
Engineers Without Borders. This partnership allows the successful
implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and
training responsible engineers and engineering students.
EWBGCP is the Greater Cincinnati Professionals
Chapter of Engineers Without Borders. As a professional chapter, we are
formed of local working professionals that devote their time and skills
to promote Engineers Without Borders locally here in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Our chapter sets its own Vision,
Mission and
Goals while following specific
Principles as determined among
our chapter's members.
We serve as mentors to the local student chapters.
We believe that professional/student partnering will develop a new
generation of engineering students who will benefit from seeing the many
facets of engineering solutions to problems in developing communities,
beyond the technical skills obtained in their curriculum.
At the same time, our chapter will take on its own
projects to expand the dimensions of experience for emerging and
practicing engineers and to promote high engineering standards.
A list of our current executive members and the
