Garden Project Becoming Reality for EWB-GCP Partner Happen, Inc.

Happen Eggstravaganza

Our friends and partners at Happen, Inc. have some events scheduled for their new garden space at 1617 Hoffner Street in Northside. Come out by yourself or with the kids. Easter egg coloring and egg hunt on Saturday 4/19/2014 and then the groundbreaking event on Thursday 4/24/2014. What other groundbreaking allows you to do an art project outside and rub elbows with the mayor?

If you can’t make the events but want to get involved in helping the garden project, email us and we will get you connected. Opportunities for support of stormwater catchment, universal design access, composting, garden planning, educational program development, and more are waiting for you.

Travelling Mentor Opportunity!

There is an opportunity to travel to Uganda with the Purdue University EWB team as their mentor. The Purdue group is in the pre-assessment stage with a biogas project in Uganda. Their project is very similar to ours. They are working with a local school of ~100 children, in an agrarian village of ~1,000 residents, where they hope to construct a biogas unit to demo gas as an alternative fuel. Their site in Uganda is southwest of Kampala whereas our project in Buseesa is northwest. Their 10-day first assessment trip is tentatively schedule for May 2014. If you are interested please contact John Baginski (jrbikeski@gmail.com) and he will connect you with the Purdue group so you can learn more.
