Chapter History

2021

  • Continued to meet remotely through additional waves of COVID.

  • Continued work with Happen on Garden Design.

  • Brought back the Volleyball fundraiser in 2021 in the open air.

  • Worked remotely to support our partner communities in Africa and at home.

  • Prepared for travel in 2022.



2020

  • Traveled in January for Kabingo projects in Uganda. Visited Busessa for project close out.

  • Hybrid meeting in March and then went fully remote when COVID shut everything down.

  • Along with the student chapters worked remotely on hand washing stations with communities in Rwanda and Uganda.

  • Presented on Kabingo iron removal project and community involvement as part of EWB virtual conference , had over 80 attendees.

  • Continued work on the Treatment Skid for Mount Notre Dame.

  • Water Committee recommended new project and work is done toward an agreement with the NGO and local government in Rwanda.



2019

  • Worked on Buseesa area projects.

  • With MU and WSU continued Support for Hope for Kabingo projects in Uganda.

  • Started working with Mount Notre Dame on a water treatment skid prototype.

  • Second Volleyball fundraiser held.

  • Project Selection committee working to develop a new Water Committee project.



2018

  • Traveled to Buseesa Uganda in March. Implemented a protected spring, an additional storage tank, and two chlorine dispensers.

  • Volunteer day at Happen, Inc. in Northside putting down a new paver teaching platform.

  • Supported Dream Big engineer day for Cincinnati area students.

  • First Volleyball fundraiser.

  • Updated website.

2017

  • Check out our 2017 Video.

  • Planning and trips to Buseesa and Kabingo Uganda.

  • Had two travel teams staggered to implement new spring boxes, wells, and pilot project on chlorine dispensers in Buseesa.

  • Prepare for first pilot system install in 2018 for water treatment trains with Hope for Kabingo.

  • Worked with Happen, Inc. on design of an accessible community garden.

2016

  • Implement protected spring and shallow well projects in Buseesa Uganda area.

  • Troubleshoot problems on the biogas system.

  • Start working with Hope for Kabingo on potential support for communities in Africa.

  • Flint, MI water problem becomes public.

  • Support Happen, Inc. with work in Make It Space, tutoring, and community gardens.


2015

  • Check out our 2015 Video.

  • Implementation trips to Uganda for biogas and water projects.

  • Support Happen, Inc. with Urban Fair and Film Project as well as in their lab spaces.

  • Fundraiser at Madtree Brewing and made our first EWB-GCP video.

  • Attend regional conference in Toledo, OH.


2014

  • Assessment trip to Uganda for biogas and water projects.

  • Prepared for implementation trips for 2015.

  • Supported Boone County Library event with Bio Mass hands on presentation.

  • Supported STEM presentations in local community.


2013

  • Research and work toward first trip to Uganda for biogas project.

  • Host EWB Great Lakes Regional Conference

  • Outgrow our meeting space and move to Amberly Village.

  • Happen, Inc. presents to EWB and long term partnership starts.

  • Community water project added to Uganda Project.


2012

  • Rwanda project is closed out.

  • Application made to EWB-USA for Sisters of Notre Dame Bio Gas project and work with Buseesa Community Development Centre (BCDC).

  • Beer Tasting Fundraiser at Molly Malones.

  • Moved from Hotmail to Gmail.

  • Started researching new meeting location.

  • Worked on Power Reliability project for school in Tequcigalpa, Honduras.

  • Volunteer day with Habitat for Humanity and built a pedestrian bridge in Kennedy Heights park.


2011

  • Check out our first Video.

  • Did two assessments, tank and briquettes, and one implementation, Rubona rainwater catchment, on trip to Rwanda.

  • Started process to close out Rwanda project and start new project criteria development.

  • Held a Wine Tasting fundraiser.

  • Continued research and testing on briquettes. Obtained banana plant material from Krohn conservatory.

  • Briquette paper on materials and chopping and grinding equipment published. Overall consensus is that banana is a poor burning material. Start looking into other materials or bio gas as a fuel for cooking

  • Moved meetings from the Library to Construction Process Solutions’ office.

  • Presented at Krohn Conservatory and local women’s group and a church.

  • Held a Calendar Raffle.


2010

2009

  • Traveled to Ntobwe Rwanda and worked with community to develop a second source to increase water supply.

  • Day tank was added at the orphanage.

  • Added self closing valves at water taps.

  • With increase in water supply a leak was detected in the large storage tank.

  • Worked on briquette press design and stove research for alternative to wood for cooking.

  • Meetings moved to Public Library.

2008

  • Completed first project implementation trip. Installed two taps in a central village location and at the local orphanage.

  • Partnered with community to install spring water collection system, conveyance pipeline, and storage tank.

  • Held meetings at Malcom Pirnie offices.

  • Received coverage in a Cincinnati Enquirer write up.

  • Successful fundraising raffle.

2007

  • Committed to working with Bridge to Rwanda, an NGO in Rwanda.

  • First project for Bridge to Rwanda approved by EWB-USA.

  • Traveled to Muhororo, Rwanda for first assessment trip.

  • Supported UC on their project application.

  • Began first fundraising campaign.

2006

  • Greater Cincinnati Professionals becomes official chapter of EWB USA.

  • Began regular meetings, grew membership, elected officers, developed constitution, and vision.

  • Created first website, business cards, and letterhead.

  • Established connection with UC chapter.

  • Began project search.

2005

  • University of Cincinnati Chapter formed.


2002

  • EWB USA founded at University of Colorado.
